Year 12

The IAS stage develops specialist subject knowledge, advanced analysis and the independent study habits required for pre-university education.

Year 12

Mathematics

Pure Mathematics 1 and 2: algebra, quadratics, trigonometry, differentiation, integration, sequences, series, exponentials and logarithms. Statistics 1 is available as an elective.

English Language

Context and Identity, unseen non-fiction analysis, World Englishes, sociolinguistics and the historical development of English.

Biology

Molecules, diet and health, transport systems, proteins and DNA, cell biology, plant anatomy, diversity and conservation.

Chemistry

Atomic structure, bonding, organic foundations, energetics, redox, inorganic chemistry, alcohols and infrared spectroscopy.

Physics

Mechanics, materials, waves, electricity and introductory quantum physics.

Business

Customer needs, the marketing mix, people, accounting, break-even and external influences.

History

Breadth and depth studies such as Revolution in Russia and Democracy and Dictatorship in Germany.

Geography

Plate tectonics, climate change, globalisation, population and migration.

Modern Foreign Languages

Spoken expression and written response focused on youth culture, lifestyle, society, equality, technology and education.

International Advanced Level

Year 13

The IA2 stage extends specialist knowledge through higher-level theory, independent research and demanding examination units.

Mathematics

Pure Mathematics 3 and 4: numerical methods, advanced trigonometry, composite and inverse functions, vectors, parametric equations and advanced integration. Mechanics 1 is available as an elective.

English Language

Crafting Language for specific audiences and genres, followed by an independent investigation into a specialised language topic.

Biology

Photosynthesis, ecology, climate change, microbiology, immunity, respiration, muscles, hormones and gene technology.

Chemistry

Kinetics, entropy, equilibrium, advanced organic chemistry, transition metals, synthesis and analytical chemistry.

Physics

Further mechanics, electric and magnetic fields, capacitors, nuclear physics, thermodynamics and space.

Business

Strategic decisions, growth, investment appraisal, globalisation and multinational companies.

History

Civil Rights in the USA or international relations and an independent research component.

Geography

Energy and water security, superpowers and biodiversity at risk.

Modern Foreign Languages

Spoken and creative research focused on environment, urbanisation, politics and a detailed cultural or literary study.

International Advanced Level

Year 14 / Maturita

The Year 14 pathway supports students who plan to continue their higher education in Slovakia or Czechia while completing internationally recognised Advanced Level study.

Year 14 / Maturita

Slovak Language & Literature

Slovak students, and foreign students planning to study in Slovakia or Czechia, complete the Maturita examination in Slovak Language and Literature.

A-Level Equivalence

Three completed A-Level subjects are equivalent to three Maturita subjects within the school pathway.

Pearson Examination Centre

Kings Schools International Bratislava provides access to Pearson qualifications within the school environment.

University Pathways

The programme supports progression to universities in Slovakia, Czechia and internationally.

Slovak Maturita – Year 14

Supporting University Pathways in Slovakia and Czechia

Students who intend to continue their higher education studies in Slovakia or Czechia can complete the Slovak Maturita pathway.

Slovak students, as well as foreign students wishing to continue to higher education in Slovakia or Czechia, are required to sit the Maturita examination in Slovak Language and Literature in Year 14 in order to achieve the Slovak Maturita qualification.

Three A-Level subjects are equivalent to three Maturita subjects.
