n 9 October 2026, our Year 12 students participated in a field trip exploring Bratislava’s public transportation network, accompanied by Mr. Michael Balog. The visit provided students with an opportunity to examine how different forms of transportation contribute to the movement of people and the functioning of a modern city.
Understanding How Cities Connect
Throughout the day, students explored several key components of Bratislava’s transportation infrastructure, including two bus stations, two railway stations, the airport and a river port. At each location, students discussed the characteristics and purposes of different transport systems, gaining a broader understanding of how road, rail, air and river transportation contribute to urban connectivity. By examining these systems in their actual environments, students had the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with practical observations.
Developing Practical Life Skills
Beyond understanding transportation infrastructure, the trip also provided opportunities to develop skills relevant to students’ everyday lives. Travelling through Bratislava using public transport encouraged students to become more familiar with navigating the city and understanding the practical considerations involved in moving between different locations.
Such experiences can help young people develop independence, situational awareness, responsible decision-making and confidence when interacting with their wider community. The visit also encouraged students to consider how accessible and efficient transportation contributes to the quality of life within a city.
Preparing Students for the World Beyond School
Experimental learning provides students with opportunities to explore their surroundings, understand public infrastructure and engage with real-world environments is an important part of preparing them for greater independence and responsibility.
For our Year 12 students, this field trip offered a practical perspective on urban mobility, transportation systems and the everyday connections that keep a city moving.Through experiences like these, we aim to help students become confident, informed and independent young adults who are prepared to navigate the world beyond school.
