The Duke of Edinburgh's International Prize is an educational program under the auspices of the British Royal Family. It is one of the leading programs working with young people, which prepares them for life and employment. In 2013, more than a million young people from more than 140 countries took part in the program. During its nearly 60 years of existence, DofE has inspired and changed the lives of more than eight million young people worldwide. DofE can play a key role in the development of students outside of school by creating opportunities for young people to develop their skills, a healthy lifestyle, helping others and through the experience of an Adventure Expedition. For their efforts, students are rewarded with a prestigious certificate that has worldwide validity and value. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award counts that every young person has the potential to succeed, no matter what their environment. Young people who join the program become more confident, focused, developing their skills in areas such as communication, problem solving and leadership.
